Urbanization and Industrialization
1. What does urbanization and Industrialization mean to you?
I believe it means people moving into places and building which will lead to loss of reasources.
2. How are you connected to urbanization and industrialization?
i am a very outdoors kind of person and have a bachelors degree in Geology and know about the environment and how it is affected.
3. Do you have a first hand experience with urbanization and industrialization?
I have been to Oregon where they stripped down trees to mine and to Boron california where the mineral Boron is mined. In Ventura county I have obsereved that hills are brought down for sand and gravel. natural processes are stopped which tampers with the environment. I have also witnessed wildfires.
4. how long have you been connected with/ affected by urbanization and industrialization?
ten years since I started an in interest in Geology.
5. Do you think this is a serious problem or something that can be put off?
I believe it is serious because we will run out of space and resources, also disease and famine.
6. What are your thoughts on how to improve this problem?
I believe that education, more guidelines and restrictions that can'not be overdeveloped will aid with this issue.
7. What are your thoughts on the opposing views?
I believe that It should be controlled but also on the other hand we enjoy the benefits so when do you draw the line? before we've crossed it or after?
8. What are some effects that not many are aware about?
water pollution and shortages of water. the way we damage our oceans because of the loss of the ozone layer and the way the carbon in the atmosphere destroys reefs and communites of life is another thing that not many are aware about.
9. has anyone been doing anything to help with the problem of urbanization and industrialization?
heal the bay tries to clean up beaches and educational programs try to bring awearness. my sister was involved in a program where she counted and estimated the number of a species of fish and took samples of the water to ensure its survival.
10. Why would many choose to ignor this issue?
they would choose to ignor this issue because they do not see the relevance to them and do not take the time to think of the long term effects.
11.can you name any places that you feel are extremely affected from this issue?
trees that get chopped of near the equator. That is their life source and they do not know how important they are.
12. Who is contributing to the problem?
the United States because we want so many things. We are big consumers and other countries want to be like use so that will lead to more scarcity.
13. What are the short term effects and what are the long term effects.
the short term effects can still be fixed but the long term effects are alot more serious and consist of habitat and species loss and also scarcity of land.
